Your Pathway to a Tech Apprenticeship Starts Here
If you’re interested in a paid tech Apprenticeship, you’re not alone. We hear from many people who want to apply directly for Apprenticeship opportunities through ActivateWork.
Here’s the most important thing to know:
ActivateWork is not an employer. We don’t hire apprentices directly, and we don’t accept applications for Apprenticeship positions from the general public. Instead, we help learners prepare for technology careers through tuition-free training, career coaching, and job search support. When Apprenticeship opportunities become available with our employer partners, qualified graduates may have the opportunity to apply.
What Is an Apprenticeship?
A Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) combines paid, on-the-job experience with structured learning and professional development. Apprentices are employees who earn a wage while building skills and gaining real-world experience in their chosen field.
ActivateWork currently supports Apprenticeship pathways in technology occupations, including IT Support, Cybersecurity, Software Development, DevOps, and Data Analytics.
How ActivateWork Fits Into the Process
ActivateWork serves as a Qualified Apprenticeship Intermediary, recognized by Apprenticeship Colorado (part of the state’s Department of Labor & Employment). That means we help connect learners, employers, training, and Apprenticeship programs—but we are not the employer making hiring decisions.
Our role may include:
- Providing tuition-free technology training
- Career coaching and job search support
- Connecting graduates with employer opportunities
- Supporting employers that hire apprentices
- Providing ongoing coaching and support during Apprenticeship programs
- Helping manage Apprenticeship program requirements and administration
Employers make the final hiring decisions for Apprenticeship positions.

How Do I Apply for an Apprenticeship?
- Step 1: Apply for an ActivateWork Program
The first step is to apply for one of ActivateWork’s tuition-free tech training programs. Our programs help learners develop technical skills, earn industry-recognized credentials, and build the professional skills employers are looking for. Every learner also receives career coaching and job search support. - Step 2: Complete Your Training
Learners complete intensive, industry-aligned training designed to prepare them for technology careers. Programs combine technical instruction with professional skills development and coaching. - Step 3: Work With Your Career Coach
After graduation, ActivateWork continues to support learners through resume development, interview preparation, job search guidance, employer introductions, and career coaching. - Step 4: Apply for Available Apprenticeship Opportunities
When employer partners have Apprenticeship openings that match a graduate’s skills and qualifications, eligible graduates may be referred or invited to apply. Because employers make hiring decisions, participation in an ActivateWork program does not guarantee an Apprenticeship or employment.
Important Things to Know About Apprenticeship Opportunities
Apprenticeship Opportunities Are Limited
Demand for Apprenticeship positions is often much greater than the number of available openings. Not every graduate who is interested in Apprenticeship will have an opportunity to participate in one.
Employment Is Not Guaranteed
While ActivateWork works closely with employers and supports graduates throughout their job search, we cannot guarantee job placement or Apprenticeship placement. Hiring decisions are made by our employer partners.
Apprenticeships Are Earned Opportunities
Apprenticeship opportunities are generally offered to graduates who have successfully completed training and are prepared to meet employer requirements.
