Alumni Spotlight: Fredrick Delehoy
Fred Delehoy is a graduate of ActivateWork’s IT Support & Security Fundamentals Course (2025‑DEN‑06 Cohort)
When Fred Delehoy graduated from ActivateWork, he was already stepping into his next chapter. We caught up with Fred to talk about his job search, interview strategies, and what it’s been like starting a new career in IT.
What did your job search look like after graduation?
Fred: I was fortunate enough to have found a great job opportunity while I was still in class. I was able to take what I learned in class into my job interview, which in turn helped me get the position.
The panel I interviewed with told me multiple times that my interview was amazing and that they loved how I answered the questions. That was because I was able to take what I learned in class and apply it directly during the interview.
Were there any strategies that helped you along the way (networking, coaching, routines, upskilling, etc.)?
Fred: Networking was a big part of why I was able to get the interview with BAE. Talking with ActivateWork’s coaches really helped me focus on interviews and give very specific answers.
I think the biggest thing I practiced was calming myself before the start of the interview. The best upskilling I can suggest is practicing for interviews. It really helps you develop strong answers and frame your experience in a new light—sometimes in ways you might not have thought of before.
Any tips for alumni currently navigating interviews or negotiations?
Fred: For those out there who are interviewing, think about how far you’ve come. Let that confidence grow and take it with you into every meeting—no matter how scary it feels or how unsure you are about your chances.
I think my confidence was a big factor in how well I did and how well I was received by the panel that interviewed me.
Where are you working now, and what are you enjoying most about the role so far?
Fred: I’m currently working for BAE Systems and Aerospace as a Field Service Tech. I’ve already gotten hands-on with equipment—taking computers apart, troubleshooting tickets, and resolving issues.
I’m getting real, hands-on training and loving every minute of it. The team I’m working with has been incredibly supportive. They recognize that I’m switching careers and have been very open with training and support. At the same time, they’ve recognized how much work I’ve already put in through coursework from Per Scholas and ActivateWork, as well as earning my CompTIA A+.
The work has completely been worth the effort and time I put into it.
